Kampong Batik Laweyan

Batik is a traditional art work that has been the source of living of Laweyan society for ages. Laweyan was known as “juragan batik” kampong. It achieved its best moment in 1970s. There are still many interesting batik showrooms that can be visited at present as one of expense tourism destination.

Laweyan was known as the center of batik at the era of Kingdom of Pajang in 1546. As a cultural pledge, there are a lot of historical sites can be visited. They are Laweyan Mosque, the burial ground of Ki Ageng Henis (the founding father of Mataram King), Ki Ageng Henis and Sutowijoyo’s (Panembahan Senopati) houses, the ex-Laweyan traditional market, the burial ground of Jayengrana (Untung Suropati’s soldier), Merdeka Mosque, Makmoer Mosque, and the residence of H. Samanhudi, the founding father of Serikat Dagang Islam.

Laweyan is also famous of its characteristic architecture and environment. The mix Javanese, Europe, Chinese and Islamic elements color the building architecture in Laweyan. High gateway, or is known as beteng, forms narrow alley for the entrance to the building.

Kampung batik KAUMAN :

Kauman Village has close links with the history of the move of Kartasura Palace to Solo which later changed its name to Kasunanan Palace. Kauman is a place of scholars consisting of several layers of society ranging from the prince commentary anom, preacher, muezzin, suronoto and courtiers (Indonesian translation: Kaum). Mangkunegaran Palace

Mangkunegaran Palace was established by Raden Mas Said, known as Pangeran Sambernyawa. It was built at the time of Treaty of Salatiga, March 13, 1757. Raden Mas Said later crowned as Pangeran Mangkunegoro I.

Mangkunegaran Palace is divided into two main buildings, the pavilion and the palace. The most interesting part of the Palace is that it is made of teak wood intact.

This beautifully manicured Palaceis located in the center of Solo, among Jalan Ronggo Warsito, Jalan Kartini, Jalan Siswa and Jalan Teuku Umar. Mangkunegaran Palace was established after a bitter family battle with the Dutch East India Company (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie or VOC).

Mangkunegaran Palace is a place which rich of art and culture. The palace contains priceless treasures and a wonderful collection, mostly derived from Majapahit (1293 - 1478) and Mataram (1586 - 1755) period of the empire, classical mask dance, wayang orang (dance drama), traditional clothing, shadow puppets and wooden puppets, religious statues, jewelry and antiques and priceless heirlooms.

The palace consists of two main parts, namely Pendopo (Hall of the Palace, a place to receive guests) and Dalem (Main Hall), which is surrounded by the residence of the royal family. The eastern part, called the Bale Peni, is residence for the prince. At western part, the palace has the Bale Warni, which is theresidence for the princess. Inside this very beautiful palace lies Reksopustoko library, where the old manuscripts, religious and philosophical writings were written in Javanese scripts.

Kasunanan Palace

Kasunanan Palace is one of the exotic buildings in its time. One of the architects of this palace is Prince Mangkubumi (later titled Sultan Hamengkubuwono I) which is also the main architect of Kasultanan Palace (Yogyakarta). Therefore, it is not surprising that the basic pattern both palaces (the Yogyakarta and Surakarta) have a general equation. Kasunanan palace, as it is today, was not built simultaneously in 1744-45, but was built in stages by maintaining basic spatial patterns that remain the same as initially. Development and large-scale restoration recently performed by Susuhunan Pakubuwono X (Sunan PB X) who reigns from 1893 to 1939. Most of the palace is painted white and blue with a mixture of Javanese- Europe architecture.
Kasunanan Palace also known as Surakarta Sultanate Palace, built in 1745 by King Pakubowono II. It is the principal palace of Surakarta, and was built at the same time this city was found. This palace was intended to replace the old palace in Kartasura, about 12 km west of Solo.

In general, the division of the palace include: Alun-Alun Lor (North Square, Sasana Sumewa Complex, North Sitihinggil Complex, North Kamandungan Complex, Sri Manganti Complex, Kedhaton Complex, Kamagangan Complex, South Srimanganti Complex and South Kemandungan, and South Sitihinggil Complex and Alun-alun Kidul (South Square). These Palace complexes are surrounded by Baluwarti, a defensive wall of which height is about three to five meters and a thickness of about one meter without pavilion. These walls enclose an area with a rectangular shape. That area is about five hundred meters wide and about seven hundred meters long. The Palace complex that is inside the wall is from Kemandungan Lor to Kemandungan Kidul. Both complexes, Sitihinggil and squares, are not surrounded by this defensive walls.

The courtyard is dominated by a tower called Panggung Sanggabuwono, a mysterious tower where become the place of meeting between the King and Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, Javanese myth of the southern sea queens. Sanggabuwana Tower is the only monument in Indonesia which is full of dignity and peace, to tradition, art and culture of classical royal Javanese architecture.

Radya Pustaka Museum

Radya Pustaka Museum was built on October 28th, 1980 by Kanjeng Adipati Sosrodiningrat IV, during the reign of Pepatih Dalem Pakubowono IX and Pakubowono X. It is located on Jalan Slamet Riyadi, one of the main streets in Solo, in the Sriwedari Cultural and City Park, Surakarta.

To give appreciation of the initiator of the museum, the Board of Paheman Radya Pustaka gives the name of the eastern building the same as him. The building east of the museum was named WALIDYASANA, combination of the words Walidi and Asana (place). This land is bought by Sri Susuhunan Paku Buwana X worth of 65 thousand Dutch gulden from Johanes Busselaar under deed 13/VII no. 10 in 1877 tanaheigendom. To give appreciation for K.R.A. Sosrodingrat IV, the board made his statue placed in the middle of the museum, which was formerly known as Loji Kadipolo.


The museum stored collection of ancient objects that have a value of high art and history, such as stone and bronze statues of Hindu and Buddhist era, ccollections of ancient keris (traditional Javanese weapon) and a variety of other traditional weapons, a set of gamelan (traditional Javanese musical instrument), wayang kulit and wayang beber (traditional Javanese puppets), a collection of ceramics and other various art items. These items are gained from Kasunanan Palace, Kepatihan, GPH Hadiwijaya, donations and by purchasing.

Honda Launches New Motorcycle Ready in 2011

GILAMOTOR.com, Jakarta. - PT. Astra Honda Motor (AHM) seems to have prepared a new weapon to face the battle in two-wheel automotive market homeland in 2011.

Latest Fujitsu Android Phone With 12.2 MP Camera
